A community reading program centered around the Pulitzer Prize winning novel, James, by Percival Everett. From April through June, readers of all ages are invited to celebrate James through an exciting lineup of author talks, engaging cultural presentations, and lively book club discussions – all designed to bring the story, and our community, together!

Percival Everett is a Distinguished Professor of English at USC. His most recent books include Dr. No (finalist for the NBCC Award for Fiction and winner of the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award), The Trees (finalist for the Booker Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction), Telephone (finalist for the Pulitzer Prize), So Much Blue, Erasure, and I Am Not Sidney Poitier. He has received the NBCC Ivan Sandrof Life Achievement Award, The Windham Campbell Prize from Yale University, and the Stowe Prize for Literary Activism.

No registration required, all ages welcome. Early arrival suggested.

As part of One County, One Book readers are invited to join OCPL’s book club discussions to explore intergenerational themes, including identity, belonging, and the sacrifices we make to protect the ones we love as reflected in Percival Everett’s James.
