What if challenging behaviors are actually clues? In this interactive workshop, pediatric occupational and speech therapists from Irvine Therapy Services will help parents look beyond meltdowns, big emotions, and shutdowns to better understand what may be happening beneath the surface. Learn how sensory processing, communication differences, and nervous system regulation shape behavior, and leave with practical strategies to support your child through connection, understanding, and co-regulation.
Jennie Ni, MS, OTR/L: Jennie brings 25 years of experience and a relationship-based, play-driven approach to occupational therapy, grounded in deep respect for each child’s unique nervous system. She focuses on creating safe, supportive, and co-regulated interactions where children feel free to explore, take risks, and discover new ways of engaging with their world.
Amanda Harpst, MS, CCC-SLP: Amanda brings 22 years of experience and a developmental, relationship-based approach to speech therapy that is neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, child-directed, and deeply family-centered. She believes meaningful communication grows through connection, play, and trust—and works intentionally to support each child’s unique communication profile in ways that feel safe, joyful, and motivating.
Ever wonder why certain sounds, textures, or environments feel instantly calming or completely overwhelming? This interactive workshop explores how sensory processing shapes your daily experiences, energy, and regulation. You’ll learn about the different sensory systems, who they impact (hint: everyone), and take part in playful, hands-on experiments to better understand your own sensory preferences. You’ll also leave with a practical handout to help you make sense of your unique sensory preferences and use them to support your well-being.
Sam Nesthus is an occupational therapist with seven years of experience in pediatrics. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach, followed by a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
