Interlibrary Loan provides access to books, magazine and newspaper articles, and microfilm that are not available from the OC Public Libraries. These materials are borrowed from other library systems, and will take time for materials to arrive.

Before requesting materials, check our catalog to be sure that materials are not owned by OC Public Libraries.

  • Electronic materials such as eBooks, eAudiobooks
  • Physical magazines or newspapers
  • Current books (less than 1 year old)

Service is available with a valid full access OC Public Libraries' card

After you have determined that OC Public Libraries does not own the material, call or stop by any OC Public Libraries' branch to request the item. The branch you contact will be the branch where you pick up your Interlibrary Loan.

OC Public Libraries does not charge for Interlibrary Loan services. However some lending institutions will charge for items and copies.

Most Interlibrary Loan items check out for 3 weeks. One (1) renewal may be requested, although some institutions do not allow renewals.

Yes, requests can be made for large print, other languages, Braille, and more. Check with your library for availability.

Please report the item as lost or damaged immediately to your library. The cost is determined by the owning library system.

Materials must be returned on or before the due date to the same branch where you picked them up.
