TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH TIP, TRAUMA INFORMED PARENTING, ORANGE COUNTY'S STANDARDIZED FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE PARENT TRAINING

Description

Developed from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, (“TIP”) is Orange County's standardized training curriculum for prospective foster and adoptive parents.

TIP

  • Strengthens the quality of family foster care and adoption services.
  • Provides a standardized, consistent, structured curriculum and support for prospective foster and adoptive families.
  • Is taught by a team of experienced foster and adoptive parents and social workers.
  • Fulfills applicants' licensing requirement to attend 18 hours of specialized training.
  • Consists of nine classes and covers the following sessions:

Session One: Child Development & Child Abuse and Meet the Children

Session Two: Trauma 101 and Cultural Awareness

Session Three: Understanding Trauma's Effects and Grief & Loss

Session Four: Building a Safe Place and Attachment

Session Five: Dealing with Feelings & Behaviors and Discipline

Session Six: Connections & Healing and Visitation

Session Seven: Becoming an Advocate and Adoptions & Permanency

Session Eight: Taking Care of Yourself and Legal Issues & Placement Readiness

Session Nine: Panel and Making an Informed Decision

Five TIP Core Competencies

Selection of foster and adoptive families will be based on five TIP core competencies. All foster and adoptive children will:

  • Be protected and nurtured;
  • Have their developmental needs met and their developmental delays addressed;
  • Be given support for their relationships with their families;
  • Be connected to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime;
  • Have their needs met by foster and adoptive parents, social workers, and others who work together as a professional team.
