Hydrologic Reports

Environmental Data Management Section publishes a Hydrologic Data Report containing data dating back as far as the late 1800s. New data is added each year from reporting (via radio telemetry) rain gages, recording non-reporting rain gages, and non-recording cooperative observer (maintained by volunteers) rain gages, and reporting water level stations.*

These hydrologic data, coupled with satellite and radar tracking of storms, are used for flood detection, allowing maintenance crews to be assigned to potential problem areas. The result is a better allocation of resources and enhanced public safety. The data are also used for a variety of other municipal purposes by the private sector.
