Pavement Designers assess the quality of existing AC and PCC pavement in order to determine an appropriate rehabilitation strategy. The preservation of existing highways, recycling of materials, and cost effectiveness of various strategies are major factors in choosing a particular rehabilitation strategy.

New Road Construction

• Arterial Highways Pavement Designers combine information gained from testing soils with information about projected traffic to determine suitable structural sections for new roads.
• Subdivision Tracts County staff performs shallow borings to obtain native soil samples and recommend roadway structural sections for all new streets, utility trench replacements, and existing roadways.
